KEXP Sessions: Eydís Evensen, BSÍ, Árný Margrét
KEXP recently published live sessions from buzz-worthy Icelandic artists Eydís Evensen, BSÍ and Árný Margrét, with videos racking in tens of thousands of views in a matter of days.
What is KEXP?
Many Icelanders will be familiar with KEXP but it operates out of Seattle and is one of the most influential listener-supported music radio stations in the world, reaching over 200,000 global listeners weekly and their YouTube videos garnering more than 3.4 million views each week.
KEXP’s relationship with Iceland goes back over 10 years, as they have been a fixture of the Iceland Airwaves festival for several years, most often hosting live performance sessions at the local Kex Hostel in Reykjavík. They even featured Of Monsters and Men in 2010, the same year they won the local Music Experiments competition which was the start of their rise to fame.
Taste of Iceland
In addition to being featured on KEXP, the three acts (Eydís Evensen, BSÍ and Árný Margrét) all performed a live show in Seattle at the Reykjavík Calling showcase, a part of the Taste of Iceland festival, curated by Iceland Music and KEXP. Taste of Iceland is an annual event series organised by Business Iceland, celebrating Icelandic culture across North America, with happenings taking place in Washington D.C., Denver, Chicago, Toronto and Seattle in 2022.
