Dísella Lárusdóttir wins Grammy for Best Opera Recording
Dísella Lárusdóttir has just received her first nomination for Best Opera Recording of the year. She is now the third Icelandic artist who has ever received a Grammy!
Last Sunday, for the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, Dísella was awarded for a live recording of Philip Glass’ opera Akhnaten - allong with the conductor Karen Kamensek, J’Nai Bridges, Anthony Roth Costanzo, Zachary James and David Frost, the producer.
In this opera written in 1983, she plays the key role of Queen Tye to depict the reign and life of Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten. Performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the soprano soloist was welcomed with a wave of praise from critics.
Earlier, at the Icelandic Music Awards 2018, Dísella was chosen singer of the year in the category of classical and contemporary music, which she also won two years ago in 2020.
