Hildur Guðnadóttir wins Oscar for the movie Joker

The Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir became the first Icelander to win an Oscar for the Best Original Score for the film Joker. In her now-famous acceptance speech, she says:

“To the girls, to the women, to the mothers, to the daughters who hear the music bubbling within: please, speak up. We need to hear your voices.”

Hildur has been in the spotlight after winning both an Emmy and a Grammy for Chernobyl, as well as a Golden Globe and Bafta for the film Joker.
