Nordic Folk Alliance in Roskilde 2023 - See the pictures!
The Nordic Folk Alliance was held April 18 - 20, 2023 in Roskilde, Denmark. During the showcase 16 Nordic folk acts performed including LÓN and Brek from Iceland. LÓN and Brek stole the hearts of the Nordic Folk Alliance attendees and made us proud.
Iceland Music’s very own Hrefna Helgadóttir (Habbi) was a moderator on the panel “How does music get into movies, series, adverts and video games?”
You can see the photos from the event after a brief introduction of our folk stars.
LÓN
During the 2020 lockdown, three long-time friends and collaborators got together to make music. There was no plan or agenda—just the idea of having a safe space to create. Something clicked in a cabin by Iceland's biggest lake.
One of Iceland’s most beloved artists, Valdimar Guðmundsson (better known as frontman of 6-piece rock and roll band Valdimar), explores his folk roots along with powerhouse performers Ásgeir Aðalsteinsson and Ómar Guðjónsson in new americana project LÓN.
Valdimar has always had the ability to charm people out of their socks and their performance at Nordic Folk Alliance was no exception.
Brek
Brek is an acoustic band from Iceland. Band members are Harpa Þorvaldsdóttir singer and pianist, Jóhann Ingi Benediktsson on guitar, Guðmundur Atli Pétursson on mandolin and Sigmar Þór Matthíasson on double bass. In their music they seek to intertwine influences from different places to make a catchy and comfortable mood but yet demanding to the audience. They use voices combined with rhythmic and dynamic dialogue of the instruments to drive the music with. Brek’s moving harmonies were a standout across the whole festival.
