Statement by Iceland Music on Responding to COVID-19
We are facing an extraordinary time in the music industry, with live events and concerts being cancelled as a direct impact of COVID-19 which is severely impacting the bottom line of musicians and the music industry.
We at Iceland Music are keeping a very close eye on this situation and are working to respond to these challenges. Available here is a risk assessment on the state of the music industry, detailing the measures we intend to take to prepare the music industry for current and future challenges as well as making the best of the existing situation. This document will be regularly updated as necessary.
The music industry can respond appropriately to travel restrictions by making use of this time for education and training, particularly for topics that are often left forgotten in normal times. Iceland Music is preparing a series of educational content for musicians and the music industry that will cover a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to: copyright, synchronisation, management, and various aspects of collaborative business with international parties. This content will be available both at free info sessions (fræðslukvöld) as has been done previously, but also via email and video should there be a ban on mass gatherings and/or those who for any reason cannot be physically present.
