Iceland Airwaves is an award-winning multi-genre music festival that takes place in Iceland‘s beautiful and vibrant capital, Reykjavík. Each year in November, music lovers and adventure seekers from all over the world gather in the city for three days and nights of music in venues across downtown Reykjavík.

This March 16, Iceland Airwaves will bring its unique flavor of Nordic charm to SXSW, showcasing four of Iceland's best up and coming artists at the Austin showcase festival. Acts performing include pianist and post-classical composer Eydís Evensen, musical prodigy and Ásgeir collaborator Arny Margret, dream pop and indietronic bopmakers VÖK, and newcomers from the indie-folk outfit LÓN.

Returning to SXSW for the first time since 2013 where the festival showcased Ólafur Arnalds, Sóley, and Ásgeir, the festival aims to showcase yet again a hand-picked selection of Icelandic rising stars. Record in Iceland, Iceland’s 25% refund scheme for music recorded in Iceland, will invite guests for pre-drinks at 7 PM.

Iceland Airwaves is teaming up with Iceland Music and Business Iceland to invite you to get a taste of Iceland Airwaves in Austin, Texas. Anyone looking for the full experience can head to icelandairwaves.is for details about lineup, Icelandair travel packages and tickets.

international audiences love icelandic artists

Icelandic artists are renowned the world over for breaking the mold. Björk is cited as an influence from anyone like Elton John or Thome Yorke to Travis Scott and SZA. She’s noted for creating innovative soundscapes which altered the sound of pop-music. Speaking of creating worlds international audiences get lost in, Sigur Rós’ film Heima has to be partially responsible for putting Iceland on the map as one of the most thrilling tourist destinations in recent years. So many people who fall in love with Iceland, started by falling in love with Icelandic Music. And on the shoulders of these giants stand other musical trailblazers in the world of film-composing. Between the late Jóhann Jóhannsson and Hildur Guðnadóttir, Iceland hasn’t seen such a stream of Oscars, Grammys, and other awards ever.

Few have done more for the next generation of artists than Iceland Airwaves which has again and again programmed the best new talent who have been able to use the platform as a springboard to a flourishing career in music. The 2013 Iceland Airwaves SXSW showcase is a perfect snapshot of the quality of their curation where Ólafur Arnalds, Sóley and Ásgeir played – all artists who are not just notable for the quality of their music but creating world of intrigue and magical wonder that captivates international audiences.
